in photos- Toronto

A few cool iPhone snaps from last Friday- headed to the city for a conference. It was a weird weekend- really foggy, like being in a horror film.

First snap... pulling into one of the train stations.

It cleared up while I was waiting to be picked up for dinner at Fresh, my fave. (I really need to branch out... anyone know any other awesome vegetarian/vegan restos in T.O.?)

By the time she picked me up... the fog was overtaking the city!!

Then I proceeded to take "the girls" out one last time... resulting in possibly the worst hangover of my life. Urgh. Some of the first words out of my mouth post-surg? "I feel drunk". Lol, apparently not uncommon. I'm feeling pretty dece now considering I had fat both cut and sucked out of my chest 4 days ago... weird to think that I've actually had lipo! Odd.

Recovery = lots of movies (including an HP marathon, Love Actually & The Holiday), jewelry making and some schoolwork, although mostly slacking on schoolwork thanks to my fuzzy brain, oops.

florence and the disappointment

After months of anticipation, went to see Florence and the Machine tonight.
We started here...

But thanks to some girls with huge mops of hair created a wall of hair obscuring our vision, and also two opening acts (one semi decent, other crap.. the ones pictured) and her not coming on stage til 11 (doors @8), we took advantage of the VIP upgrade to the balcony thanks to Rogers urmusic. We got a seat here...

But still drama galore upstairs. Two girls got kicked out for stealing some girls seats (we wondered why they threw the jacket on the floor). Anyways, Florence finally came on...

And the acoustics in the Sound Academy were terrible, the beautiful harp sounded like crap, and Florence didn't sound like she was trying in about 80% of the songs they played. A few good ones, but definitely would not see again and don't recommend you waste your money either. Blah.

training update!

Well folks, it is "dangerously hot in Ontario", just starting a heat wave of 3 days of temps above 32C (more like 42-44 with the humidity here in Toronto!) and here I am taking two hot classes a day. And wow, are they HOT!!

But on another, more cheerful note, I am loving every minute. (Of the training, not the heat!)
(heads up, this post will be brief and photoless- the internet connection right now is less than ideal!)

The days are definitely intense. I wake up at 5:30, leave for the subway by 6 (having laid out everything the night before including meals), and get to the studio around 6:30. This is our average day, lasting from 6:45 am until 7:15pm:

15 minute meditation
90 minute asana
1 hour break
1 hour (or so) lecture
1 hour break
1 hour lecture
60 minute asana
3 hour lecture

I know it is only day four but I cannot believe how interesting I am finding everything! Nothing at all like college, where you had to struggle through the boring material. Our teachers have been awesome with more awesomeness to come- and they are all so amazing and engaging. It almost seems surreal, being able to spend the whole month focusing on YOGA!

Practicing twice a day is definitely challenging, especially factoring in this brutal heat we are having. This morning's class was hot death!

Well, that's all for now! Ideally I'd be heading to bed now (9pm) but I have to brush up on the series before our first day of practice teaching tomorrow! Should be exciting... and nerve wracking!

my 6 seconds of fame

(And thats 6 seconds in 3 separate clips lol! I just watched the S2E4 aftershow online to scope it out!)
The camera adds 10lbs, just throwing it out there!
Did you know their "martinis" are actually Vitamin water?
I also won a sweet sweet Aveda prize. (Well, my friend Jeff actually won it but felt bad for me. Nicest friend!!)

Nuit Blanche

an iPhone photo journey, co-inciding with entry 200!

And the night begins.

I've already shed multiple layers at this point, hence the disheveled look.

Why yes, I am a bit obsessed. SBux for life.

Monopoly with real money. And yes thats the guy from video on trial.

Still got about another hour before we pack in it. Kudos to Annie for driving all the way back to KW after!

The huge CN Tower project. Pulsating lights, up the ENTIRE tower, set to the beat of music.Nice to chill out with a latte and watch.

This was an excellent night. I only wish I had had more nap beforehand!

Toronto-opoly!

Check out this gem I scored from a hobby shop my uncle took us into. A blatant rip-off of monopoly, McDonalds is the "start" and you go directly to Toronto Prison. The best part is the thing on the box saying "Coupons for McDonalds and Wonderland- expiring 1991!".
Oh score.

Chocolate covered bacon.

It tastes exactly like it sounds, and not necessarily in a good way. You can get this expensive artery clogger at the CNE. (surprise!)

Sand Art

Yesterday, I went to the CNE for the first time ever. These are some sand sculptures from the competition. So amazing, and another huge Toronto-scape was being created as we watched!

This one was my personal fave- "Beauty"

This won first place. (click to enlarge and check out his face!)

More on the CNE later!

T.O. Wanderings

I think as recently as June I've been know to say I hate Toronto. As mentioned in a previous post, I've been driving there daily this week and spent a full day there today hanging out with my aunt & uncle, and tackling the CN Tower as seen in the post below. I have to admit, it's probably the best time I've ever had in the city. Getting out of the touristy areas and checking out the different neighbourhoods, and discovering that quiet actually does exist if you only head down the side streets! I have to admit the good 'ol T.dot is growing on me. I would actually like to give living there a shot... just need to be able to afford it first!!
Liar!

So, one for Paish!
Cool. In Kensington market, where we had lunch at Rice.

The CN Tower

So, apparently I was a deprived child and I've never been up the CN Tower OR to the CNE. I remedied one today, and the other is on the way. These are pics from my first trip ever up the CN Tower! I went solo so bear with the selfies (or "GPOYs", in BC terminology!)
Yes, I'll answer to Godzilla.

His smile is kind of creeping me out!

I'm heeeeeeeeeere!

Really, really effin high up! I'm an old pro at glass floors though, after the Auckland tower!

Soooooo windy. That is my excuse for the hair :-P

Toronto actually looks pretty from this view!

My Aunt Melissa told me to wave at her in her condo, so I did. Photographic evidence!

Cue "I'm on top of the World" (The City theme song)

Going down down down... (I have that song stuck in my head... you know, the one with Lil Wayne)

Harbourfront Art

I've been busy this week driving the kids my sister usually babysits (nannies?) to the Harbourfront every morning this week for day camp. I took a few minutes this morning to check out the art in the area- it's very cool! This first few pics below are the Simcoe WaveDeck- there are 3 in total along the harbourfront, variations of the same idea (and one more coming). They are quite new, this one being the most recent. I remember reading about this one in the paper a few weeks back so it was cool to experience it myself. They still smell of new lumber- yum!

Turtles are cute (well, the ones that aren't scary), so this is cool.

This is called "Respect", "a photo odyssey celebrating Canada's Boreal Forest"- loads of aerial photographs. It's spread throughout the Harbourfront Centre.
And, this one's for Annie.

Colder than a Torontonian

If anyone out there in BC sees one of these before them come down, take a pic... I wanna see this with my own eyes haha!

"Billboard ads in British Columbia for Coors Light beer are being taken down after complaints from Toronto residents offended by the message.

About 30 billboards throughout the province show a can of cold Coors Light and the words: "Colder Than Most People From Toronto."

Adam Moffat, Coors Light manager of brand and marketing public relations, said Tuesday the company has received about 10 calls and emails over the billboards, and most of them were complaints.

"I've been on the receiving end of a few emails," he said. "Clearly we've struck a chord with Toronto civic pride…. People are saying they're proud Torontonians and feel it's not fair to be treated in this way."

Moffat said the company apologizes for any offence and that no slight was intended.

"We were playing up local humour and regional rivalries and having a bit of fun with that," he said.

Newmarket resident Kathryn Morton, who grew up in Kamloops, told the Toronto Star that she saw the billboard while on a camping trip a few weeks ago.

"That's pretty insulting to such a large group of people," she told the paper. "We hear stuff about Toronto people all the time but we couldn't believe anyone would put it on a billboard."

Moffat said the ads will start coming down Tuesday and should completely disappear within a week." source: CBC

Amazing what 10 complaints can do!
